CEO: YOUR Role or Someone Else’s?
Dear World,
Being silenced occurs daily. Conversations halt as soon as they begin. From body language to tone, history proves that ONE participant has the power to open the pathways or block the masses from speaking.
“Be first to speak up in defense of someone else. Be the kind of person who would step up when injustice occurs. SPEAK LOUDLY!” DLK, 3rd grade, rocks at recess
I recently cleaned out my childhood bedroom and found diaries. The evolution of my handwriting was distinct. The secrets and stories felt as real and raw as when I first put pencil to paper. I courageously read my secrets, wonderings, and notations of injustice.
To read memories, especially your own memories, is a choice. The possibility of being triggered across a spectrum of emotions is great. However the probability of experiences repeating becomes greater when injustice is ignored.
To no surprise, my words in the 3rd grade are exactly as I’d speak today!
WE ARE IN CRISIS!
As Russia’s dictator strives to do as Hitler once did, I’m curious how we can and will explain the current realities to today’s youth? History repeating itself stirs inside me as I recall the feeling of rocks thrown at me for being Jewish.
Diaries serve a purpose for the person writing, and now, serve a purpose for ALL OF US to stop, pause, and get curious.
I am acutely aware of the limitations placed upon marginalized people. We all have choices. We ALL can take action. What we choose to do differently today CAN shift the paradigm for today’s youth. And, when I refer to today’s youth, I mean ALL YOUTH GLOBALLY!
The rise in stress and inability to regulate internal turmoil directly impacts how we show up across all spaces and places. Flight, fight, freeze, or fawn ultimately take over if we lack actionable coping mechanisms. In the 3rd grade, I froze.
“Be first to speak up in defense of someone else. Be the compassionate person who intervenes when she sees an injustice. Just SPEAK!” DLK, 7th grade, bus ride home
All too often, we choose silence as our inner voice screams, DISRUPT!
Today, I choose to DISRUPT OUR CURRENT PARADIGM! Yes, my actions and intentions are unwavering for today’s youth. However, today, I’m speaking for ALL of humanity!
➡️ Limiting resources, stifling conversations, and simply suppressing to maintain a hierarchy of privilege must end.
➡️ Creating safe, easily accessible spaces for ALL to use their POSITIVELY POWERFUL VOICE, to be the thought leaders, to TAKE ACTION is essential!
➡️ WE MUST PUT OUR EGOS ASIDE AND ACTIVELY LISTEN TO LEARN!
Today, 3/23/22 is an opportunity for ALL to choose the uncomfortable conversation. Today’s and tomorrow’s youth are OBSERVING, LISTENING, and FEELING OUR ACTIONS, OUR DECISIONS!
If I’ve learned anything from my personal childhood, being silenced continues to encourage me to PURPOSEFULLY SPEAK UP AND OUT!
Love,
Dana💛

Dana, I cannot tell you how much I love the work you do. Where were you when I was raising my kids and making all kinds of mistakes? My kids had a mentally ill father who had substance abuse issues, and he is now deceased. I love you doesn’t begin to cover how I feel about you.
