LIVE TODAY: How to be an ALLY

Today is a CELEBRATION!

December 2019, Cheryl Thompson, DEI Champion for Automotive and I spoke about my desire to bring actionable change into schools for equity in education, inclusion and accessibility for all, and having uncomfortable conversations with learners and families.

As I listened attentively to Cheryl share her story and what propelled her to create Center for Automotive Diversity, Inclusion and Advancement, hot tears streamed down my face as the fire within me burned. I knew creating sustainable change would be a slow process, and yet, I WANTED CHANGE NOW!

Cheryl suggested avenues to explore, and then, paused.

With a big smile, Cheryl invited me to apply to THE PROGRAM SHE CREATED! Like all applicants, Cheryl clearly stated that I'd go through the process like all AND emphasized the time commitment. I was unwavering in my decision to LEAP!

Applying AND becoming certified in DEI was, is, and ALWAYS will be bigger than me!

While many were confused as to my decision to join a certification program beyond my scope and sequence (ie the automative industries), Cheryl's gift pushed me to see, hear, feel, AND dismantle conscious and unconscious biases, meet and partner with people I would never have met, and most importantly, wholeheartedly embody, I BELONG EVERYWHERE!
